KP WHISKEYTOWN GET TOGETHER - FUN FISHIN DAY!!! JULY 22nd

Postby Gary Coe » Wed Jul 12, 2006 3:59 pm

Several of us kokanee addicts are planning to go to Whiskeytown next weekend. The date is set, July 22nd.

One thing leads to another... We started talking about having a fun fishing day (extremely low key), maybe lunch together or whatever happens.

I haven't been up there yet this summer, but I hear the lake is kicking out some very nice kokes, to 18 inches and 2 lbs. plus!

Also, the 10 day weather forecast calls for a hot spell and then cooling back into the 90's up there that weekend.

Sooooooooooo.... everyone is invited. Come on down! (or up.) See you there!

Count me in too. I'll be there!! How about a potluck BBQ afterwards in the RV lot at Oak Bottom Park?? Say maybe 6 or 7pm. Planning on being there with a couple of friends also.

Potluck!

Postby fishintrippz » Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:36 am

That sounds fun, we used to do this with my Scuba Diving Group on Saturdays.

OK, I would normally say I would bring potato salad, but since I am on a diet, I will bring Green Salad.

So add that to the list AL!

a buddie and I will try and go. We will arrive around 14:30 or so. I think we will leave the boat at home since it's not really worth it to tow the boat for such a short time fishing, but if anybody has room for 2 guys even as spectators we would love some time on the water. If a potluck or bbq is planned we can help with that.

Were IN!

Postby MrDwnRigger » Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:22 pm

Mark and I will be there Friday, probably midmorning. I didn't have to twist Mark's arm very hard to get him to go, all I had to say was 2 lb+ Kokes. This will be our first trip up there so any information on the fishing or where to stay would be appreciated. Were definitely in on the potluck BBQ might have to even make up some batches of firewater. Maybe we can get Gary to tell us where the fish are  I carry 2 BBQ in the RV anybody's welcome to use them.

Looks like this "little" get-together is turning out to be a mini KP bash. To be on the safe side, may be a good idea to make your camping reservations. Oak Bottom Campground. The RV spaces have no hookups and there is a lot to be desired as far accomodations. But if there's a bunch of us kok-a-nuts BBQing in the RV lot, who needs hook-ups.

Mr D margaritas sound really good right now.

Select Oak Bottom RV (not Tents)

I don't know AL, Maybe we should do a Derby up here next year with all the interest in the lake, LOL!

Whiskeytown

Postby Rokpyl » Fri Jul 14, 2006 9:01 am

8) Hey Mike...will you have room for a "hitchhiker" for fishing? I'd be willing to drive up for the day. I have to train a class in Oakland that week, but the drive home is short compared to other training sites. Driving up to Whiskeytown for the day would be good for me

The Boat is full, but you have a boat now...We have 4 cannon Mag 20's for sale too. Strap those on the drift boat we will attach a tow line onto the intertube that Haylee and Ryan will be on and tow you around too! A TUBE- DRIFT BOAT TROLL

Sounds interesting!

Good Luck to all,
Would like to be with the group but will be just a shade further north, Lake Paulina where it may be a little cooler.
Hope to hear some good reports since we will be going up the 26th.
Get some 18+"ers,
Jim (Green Boulton)

Safety first

Postby Al Millan » Mon Jul 17, 2006 8:22 pm

Okay gals and guys, here's another idea to kick around. Weather forecast calls for temps up to 111 degrees this week in the Redding area. Although the weather will NOT keep me from hitting the water for them Whiskeytown kokes, it will alter my plans for a parking lot BBQ. The cement pavement will make it almost unbearable for us without AC even in the late afternoon. Therefore, instead of the parking lot BBQ, anyone interested in meeting for dinner in Redding around 7pm? Dinner inside an air conditioned restaurant is a lot safer than hot pavement. There are plenty of places to have dinner in town.

Let me know what you think.

Whatever the group wants to do I'm up for it. I have made reservations for 2 nights at Oak Bottom but I think I can cancel 1 night. If we go down to Redding area for dinner I may change my plans and stay in a RV park down there for the night. Your call on the restaurant Al, if you can find one with a RV park close by I'm sure there's a few of us who will go there. It would be nice to be able to run the AC all night.

What days are you going to be up there, Mark and I should be getting there midmorning Friday.

It's going to be hot, hopefully the fishing too.
