New Melones Pens

Postby goose » Mon Apr 09, 2012 9:31 am

My son, granddaughter, grandson and I met Kyle Murphy(F&G Biologist) at Glory Hole Marina on Thursday to do another weight check. Here's the e-mail I got from Kyle this morning:
Gentlemen,
Attached is the spreadsheet for the New Melones net pen evaluation. The fish have almost doubled in size. Fish went from 0.72 fish/lb as measured on 12/6/2011 to 1.27 lb/fish measured on 4/5/2012. The biggest fish we weighed individually came in at 2.5 lbs.
-Kyle

There are some monsters in the mix, 3-4 pounders. It looks like we'll be releasing them sometime this week, just waiting on the go-ahead from the "brass".

We got a bunch of photos from Dale (aka Goose) from the weight check and then the release. They are in the Kokanee Power Photo Gallery Tks Dale!

Here's a few samples pictures of the interesting netting contraption device that was used for the weigh portion to be able to scoop the trout and record the weights.

The trout had to be coaxed out of the nets with some feed. They were probably hiding form the monster bass like the 17lbr that was caught recently.

Here's a link to a video that Dale took of a 3lb+ fish cruising the pens, not sure whether it will load but give it a shot...

This is just one of 26 pens out there where Kokanee Power plays a part in contributing back to the fishery through your membership and derby dollars.
