Berryessa 4/3/11

Postby Doubleheader » Sun Apr 03, 2011 5:14 pm

Needed some time on Berry. Left Walnut Creek at 5:30 and started out at the mouth of the narrows around 7 a.m. Launched from Steele Park. It is open but no one at the booth either coming or going. The only thing left is a porta potty and few wood sided docks that I stay clear of. Where are our tax dollars going?

Weather was nice starting out going into the narrows. I was targeting kings on the two riggers and had two toplines for trout (rapalas and apexes)

All quiet on deck

What the fishfinder showed. Marks from 60 to 80 but no takers on 2 inch white and white/pink glow tubes. No idea what is going on around 100 feet and below.

Weather getting nasty as we get to the dam
First tsunami debris showed up-

Then 2 foot wind waves made trolling impossible.

No bites so we moved over to Skiers Cove (way too rough) so then went south of Goat Island and trolled back over to before Spanish Flat for one small king caught on an orange/yellow Vance hoochie. No idea where the trout were hiding. Had enough of the wind and ended the day at 12:30.

Berryessa is the fullest I have seen it in many years.

Until next time ...

Hi Doubleheader,
Vickie and I were there Sunday also, we fished the dam area first, not even a bite! so we moved up towards skiers cove and the 2ft waves and wind were no fun so we backed down into the narrows and trolled back to markley cove. Got on the water at 8:00am left at 1:00pm. We fished from 5ft to 100ft and were skunked! Worst day on Berryessa ever.

Berryessa doesn't seem to be very kind these days but it beats hanging out at home.
