The Melones Browns were released on April 27. The short notice was because of being notified that the marina was out of food as of the 25th and rapidly increasing surface temperatures. With no food and hot water, they were dumped very quickly in an effort to insure their health. Hopefully we can do a better job of letting folks know next time. The fish were in tremendous shape, all being over 1 ft. and many approaching 18 inches, and FAT! 1,600 new big healthy browns in New Melones. That just sounds good.
Some of this year's kokanee have been planted and the rest are going out every day. Part of the "wait" is to get the "okay" to plant from the legal/environmental folks to plant a specific water. It is the Department's position this year to NOT release which specific waters have or have not been planted and with what number of fish until ALL of this year's kokanee have been placed in their new homes. Look right here for a complete 2010 Plant Recap in June as soon as it's available.
