DBCFR =DB Custom Fishing Rods

I just joined your forum and also just joined Koknee Power Ca.
I have been fishing Koknee for about 5 years have a sm boat 16ft creasliner,2 scotty's 1101, huminbird 797ci, (old) pro-troll black box, to many koknee rods to count...I have fished koknees at only 2 places so far Bass Lake and Shaver Lake and done quite well at both places but I am looking to expand any ideas?

for the most part I don't know where the launch ramps are and where to start in other lakes I need to chat with a few locals from the central valley so I can get hooked up with that info...

I have been reading your forum for a few days now and it looks like the place to be so here I am...
Thanks for the great forum

Welcome aboard - Just post any questions you want and I'm sure we can chip in with some answers. Be careful though as our answers sometimes lead to the wallet being opened a few more times at a tackle shop or via kokaneemart.com. :D How has the fishing at Bass Lake been this year? It sure seems like Shaver is doing pretty good.

Kevin,
Thanks for the welcome, Bass lake was doing ok until the trout derby after that the jet ski have taken over so the fishing there is 5 am to 9 am a bit early for me with such a short fishing time...However Shaver lake has been kickn out some good fishing I was there with a friend last wed from 9 am to 4 pm for 30+ koknee from 13"to 19" and another 10 LDR's and 5 little ranbows all on Murphy's Super Bugs, 2 S/P corn per hook 50/50 anise +/Koknee SP all at 30 and 40 feet as i stack with shuttle hawks and use home made ball trolls 1.1 mph seem to be the the right speed running a zig-zag and getting hit in the turns we even had 2 or 3 3 way hookups and a hand full of 2 ways all and all a good day but not great...I have had much better days on Shaver I use a click counter to keep tract but I left it at home that day (that's why the +) and had to rely on my buddy to count it was his first time with Koknee and down riggers so it was a training run and he is hooked so his wallet will be gettin lighter...As you can see I have most of what I need other then a bigger boat which I have started to build glass over wood 20' carolina skiff w/pilot house that way I will have room for a few more DR's and friends... my bigger boat is the kids and mine summer project ("boat building 101") my son wants my 16' so he is helping with hopes of his own boat...funny how that motavates them to work... I have 2 boys and 3 girls and 1 grandson that loves to fish so I do need a bigger boat...

as you can tell i kinda have a idea what is going on at least on 2 lakes...I am an Ocean convert about 35 years of fishing the ocean and outfitting people for long range trips, building fishing rods, fishing shark and marlin pro teams and a few years of pro/am bass.
I sold the big boat 6 years ago and moved out of the rat race to the Central Valley so here I am... playin with little Koknee for a passtime and some great eats...

I would like to know more about New Melones , Don Padro , Mc Clure lakes as I live not far from hwy 49 and 41 xing so they would be a short run for me anyone have any ideas or info?...

Of the three lakes you want more info about I would suggest Melones since the fish are bigger than Pedro. Pedro fish were basically 12 inch fish at the derby this year where Melones are 13 to 15 from the reports. McClure is always a Kokanee mystery so other than trying to catch some nice Brook trout I would expect much in the Kokanee department from it as it gets really small plants. 2 years ago it had a nice surprise population of good size Kokanee.

As for Melones launch at Glory Hole ramp and always stop at the Glory Hole Sports up on the highway before you head down as they have a very big selection of Kokanee gear if you need anything last minute. You can get weekly reports here:

http://www.gloryholesports.com/latest_f ... report.htm

You are sure to see a fleet of Kokanee boats in the hot spots around the lake like Rose Island, The Dam and probably the spillway. Glory Hole point, just around the corner of the ramp can have Kokes along the shorleine when there is enough water. Watch out for trees whereever you fish as there are lots of them in coves and certain areas and they eat downrigger gear for a living. :D

That should get you started but if you have more questions just ask.
