Hey Chris; while at Eagle, I was very successful trolling lead core with like 1 to 3 colors long leader and single treaded worm, my favorite place was off the scout camp and eagle nest. If the fish have moved north then that far shore and willows way up on the north shore have been very good this time of the year. Those Jay Farr flies in the cinnamon and olive are deadly, trolling like the single worm. Try those tru turn hooks...they are great. Good luck, you may see me there.

Thanks for the tips Doug, I'm familiar with those areas mentioned, plus the gear mentioned. What size tru-turn are you using? A Gamakatsu size 1 bass hook and a single size 2 or 3 grub in Pumkin seed/ watermelon/ black and a few other colors works well too. My other Favorite set up is a Uncle Larry's black perch spinner w/ grub or crawler. I've seen personally what those cinnamon Jay Farr fly's can do. A guide friend of mine was fly fishing off the bow with them near the reeds, while I operated the Downriggers for him and the clients trolling 1 mph. He was hammering them on that fly, then he'd pass the fly rod the client. That cinnamon fly was on the small side too, it was amazing how affective it was. Out of curiosity, are you the same Doug Place that owns Doug Place insurance in Sunnyvale, Ca. ?

Hi Chris: Yes I am that same Doug Place, retired in 2003, and my wife and I moved to Reno. That's how my fishing went, with Eagle, Pyramid, Frenchmans, Davis and then Stampeed. We moved back to Lathrop in 07 and then got involved with KP. The tru turn is a size 2 or the new mustad slow death out of cabelas has been really good to me. I have trolled with that Jay Flair like the nightcrawler slow rolling. I've had some good success with that method up there. If possible and you can find them, try that grub with a action disk with a chartruese (sp) in 2 inch, that pumkin and root beer were deadly for me there. I used to go up there and just use those grubs and yes those reeds are the place up north past Spaulding, I also fly fished that area in a float tube in that channel that goes to fish and game ladders and little building there. Fun times there. Do we know each other from my Sunnyvale days??? you can e-mail direct at oneplace@clearwire.net. Good luck on your trip, I might grab a friend and go there myself. Doug
