Egg collection time

Postby John Lico » Mon Sep 15, 2008 7:11 pm

Well it is hard to beleive but its about time again. This year flew by.DFG. has installed the weirs in the little truckee at stampede.Once again we will need volunteers to work together with DFG and PK to collect these eggs to ensure continued kokanee fishing as we know it.There will be more than just one trip. And unfortunately this is always done during the week not on the weekends. The dates have not been anounced yet,and dfg does not give us but a few days notice when they are going to go and do it.Members please give this some thought and if you can volunteer great. This is where your membership money just begins to start working for this fishery. Please keep an eye on the volunteer forum. As soon as i get more info from dfg and dates i will post here.Thankyou for your time.

The Truckee kokanee egg take dates are set. The first is next Wednesday, October 8th . Everyone is to meet where they have met in the past, at the Penny Pines Turnoff. They plan to leave there and head into the canyon at 0730.

The tentative second date is the following week, Wednesday, October 15th.

Contact John Lico for details and volunteer information. Thanks,

Gary

Ok one more day and then it is time for the first egg collection.Unfortionately i need more help from this membership than i am getting.I have a handfull of people for the first collection on the 8th and zero so far for the 15th.I understand that it is done during the week and most of us work Mon.thru Fri.But out of over a thousand members i shouldn't have that much problem getting a dozen for each collection.I know everyones time is valuble.but if you could spare one day we sure could use it.Thanks

A few more specifics on the directions from John Minnis is that you go to Truckee and take 89 North. You will go past Hobart Mills which is about 4 miles and then go another 5-6 miles past that. You should see some big buildings on the left and a sign and turnout for Penny Pines OHV on the right. You should see lots of cars around there as well.

I'll be heading up there with the family to experience the fun. Looks like the weather is going to be perfect.

I want to give you as much notice as possible. I received notice from the DFG late yesterday about a THIRD EGG COLLECTION DATE AND LOCATION!

If everything goes as planned today, the third and possibly LAST egg collection date will be one week from today, October 22nd, at TAYLOR CREEK, Lake Tahoe.

Director John Lico will provide you with all the details right here as they become available.

Thanks & have a great day,

For those of you wondering where Taylor Creek is here are some instructions:

Here's a PDF link of the visitor center:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/ltbmu/images/re ... ac-map.pdf

The instructions to get there as described from the Forest Service site link is:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/ltbmu/recreatio ... or-center/

"The Visitor Center is located 3 miles north of South Lake Tahoe, California, on the lake side of Hwy. 89. It is past the Tallac Historic Site and the turn off for Fallen Leaf Lake."

The weir is located across the road from the Taylor Creek Visitor center where the bridge for Taylor Creek crosses HWY 89. There looks like there may be limited off road parking there but it would be just as easy and probably recommended to park on the West side of the Taylor Creek Parking lot and there is a marked trail "Rainbow Loop" about an 1/8th mile to the road where you can cross and get to the site. Go to the left instead of the right where the parking lot trail intersects with the rainbow loop trail.
