Made a trip up to Melones on Saturday with my brother Doug. We intended to do some fishing, then hit the seminar. Fishing was good enough that we didn't get off the lake in time to see the show.
Late start and didn't have lines in until 9ish. Trolled around the backside of Glory Hole ramp. It was windy, so spent quite a bit of time just fighting that. 1 LDR in the first half hour, then going downwind Doug gets a drag peeler with a northbound fish on a southbound boat. Ripped a fair amount of line so I assumed it was a bow. Took our time and once it got close it was obvious it was a koke. Turned out to be our big fish of the day at 2 lbs on the nose and 15.5+ inches. We picked up 6 others throughout the day with 4 of them being over 1.5 lbs. Didn't see a trout all day, but we were targeting kokes so that was fine. Only my second time on the lake, so we weren't too disappointed.
These fish weren't fat or full of plankton like I've seen on other lakes, but they were "tall" for lack of a better word. Once these fatten up you're looking at some impressive kokes later this summer.
A mix of custom hoochies that Doug tied up(similar to koke-a-nuts, but more flash), Apexes, RMT hoochies and RGTs were used, most with short leaders behind various dodgers.
