New Melones Trout Pen Weigh-in...

Recently the DFG did a weight check on the trout in the pens at New Melones. Picture credits and thanks go to Dale "Goose" who captured some photos of event from 12-11-11. They created a special net to drop into the pen and just lift it up and then scoop the trout out for a weight on the scale. The average weight was a pound from what was relayed. And here is some more updated data from Dale "Goose" Nulph....

"After the final numbers were crunched, Kyle sent me this: Approximately 600 lbs. of Eagle Lake strain rainbow trout were stocked into the net pens on 11/18/2011. The trout averaged .5 lbs/fish at time of stocking. On 12/16/2011 a sample of the fish rearing in the net pens was taken. A sample of 135 fish were weighed and averaged. 0.7 lbs/fish. An average growth of 0.2 lb/fish in the first 30 days post stocking. 50% growth in ONE month!"

It seems these fish like the trout chow!
