Hello, new guy with questions!!!!!

Postby Cariboo Brad » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:01 am

Hi everyone

Caught the anglerwest show on WFN with Gary Coe and learned a lot about kokanee fishing and here I am

I live in Vancouver B.C. but recently purchased 9.8 acres right across the street from Bridge Lake up in the Cariboo and started kokanee fishing last year

I have a 12 ft inflatable with floorboards and a 2.5hp yamaha but no downriggers or a way to mount one

So last year I was using leadcore flyline with 9 ft 6 weight flyrods. had some success using apex in green, orange and pink in the morning. My leaders have been 10 to 20 ft of 6lb flourocarbon. I was getting hits 1.5 to 3.5 colours out. The fish were respectable, getting 1 to 3 in the 2lb to 3.5lb range but there are kokanee in the 6 to 8lb range in Bridge Lake. Someone got a 6.75lb one last year.

After watching Gary I picked up some pink hoochies, spin and glo's in assorted colours , red and green beads and #4 red gamagatsu hooks. I have never used flashers before but picked up 2 4in flashers in red/reflective and green/silver with an echip. I have some procure scent but need to pick up the shoepeg corn.

If anyone could give me some advise and tips on how to maximize my fishing with the gear restraints in place that would be appreciated

Some different lures, techniques, tips please lay them on me but realize I have no downriggers

I am leaving this saturday for a week, hope to hear from a few of you

Thanks everyone

Hello, new guy there must be a way you can mount downriggers if not your what we call hear comes that guy with the lead line (stear clrear) lol
Your on the right track, just try everthing, spinners w different blade como's like copprer, nickle or both make up your own spinners and so on you might want to try dodgers, sling blades I've had good luck with marni biugs with vance's green metal flake you just have to expermint plus your corn /sooked in, well you'll have to excuse me  its been so long for me I can't remember thre name WELLGood luck new guy just remember to troll slow and if you use marni bugs try to keep your leader short (gives more action) same w hoochies................good luck

Hey Brad,

Along with kokes 520 advice you just need a variety of things to see what they want, spinners (Rocky Mountain, Uncle Larry's, Crystal Basin), hoochies (pinks & orange), apex ( you have that covered it seems). Then have a few different dodgers from Vance's tackle and Sling Blades from Rocky Mountain or Shasta tackle ( the UV ones are popular). A great place to see the variety of pure Kokanee gear is from http://www.kokaneemart.com. Ric has the best stuff available on his site and his service and shipping is the best out there in my opinion.

Given you are having to top line it will definitely depend on your water temps. You could alwaus use some slip weights on your line to get deeper too instead of having to pay out 75 yards of lead core.

Definitely let us know how you do and keep asking questions.
