Shasta Lake Trophy Trout Pen Plant NEXT WEEK!

Postby Gary Coe » Thu Nov 11, 2010 3:27 pm

First of all, I’m VERY pleased to tell ya….Kokanee Power now has 5 pens in Shasta Lake! High water levels finally allowed us, with the help of the US Forest Service Biologist, Joe Zustak and his crew to get everything we had, wet! There are three pens on the Sacramento Arm at Antler’s, Tsasdi’s and Sugarloaf. One on the McCloud at Holiday Harbor and one on the Pitt at Silverthorn Resort.

These five pens will allow us to release well in excess of 10,000 lbs of trophy quality rainbow trout next Spring in Shasta Lake alone.

Most importantly, this is a testament to the great members and supporters of Kokanee Power. Without our membership, without that support, there wouldn’t be any trout pens, or a lot of other good things we are able to do. Lest I forget later, Thank You.

The pens will be “planted” next Wednesday and Thursday, November 17th and 18th . The bucket brigade will start around 10:00 am Wednesday at Sugarloaf and the next day at Silverthorn, also around 10:00 am.

Come have a look or give us a hand with the trophies of tomorrow! See ya there.

The Shasta Lake Pens Plant was a screaming success. Thanks to all those who were there helping out and to all of our supporters who allow these great programs to continue.

And Happy Turkey Day too!

There's a lot of logistics to get all this coordinated and Monte Currier had this to share with us along with a few photos below the email we received from Monte.

********
Gary and associates,
I wanted to send you a few photos and information regarding this weeks net
pen stockings at Lake Shasta. On November the 17th, three resorts (Sugar
Loaf Cottages, Tsasdi, and Antlers) each received 750 beautiful half pound
Eagle Lake trout. The following day (November the 18th) Holiday Harbor and
Silverthorn resorts happily met the hatchery trucks and welcomed opportunity
to participate in the rearing of these future trophy trout.
I wanted to thank your organization for providing the funds and "synergy"
that keeps these programs alive and thriving in our area.

Also much appreciation goes out to Randy Bergquist, the United States Forest
Service/Trinity Unit, the California Conservation Corps, Crystal Lake
hatchery staff and Shasta lake resort personnel for their assistance. I
look forward to continuing this valuable trophy program. I look forward to
the release of the "lunkers" in the spring! Please share the attached photos
with your members.
Thanks again,
Monty Currier
